EDI - Not Paper

Customs continues to make steps at trying to eliminate paper forms. On October 15, 2007 all entries were going to have to done by EDI but at the last minute they decided they would give brokers till March 2008. What does this mean for you? Some of the commodities that are imported require additional information when submitted via EDI so there will be additional costs. Shipments that fall under the jurisdiction of CFIA require a significant amount of additional information so there will be extra fees associated with those shipments.

Summit continues to try to automate the process as much as possible but due to the frequency of changes in CFIA's information and the methods for disseminating data this is a continuing challenge.
